Rain Alphabet

Meera Nambiar has spent forty years building an oral life around words that will not stay still on a page. She teaches by memory, rhythm, and the sound of children's voices. Then rain begins arranging itself across banana leaves, window glass, and still water, and Meera discovers a language only she can read.

Most of the village's hidden thoughts are petty, funny, or tender. One is not.

A child who vanished twenty years ago speaks in fragments from the rain: cold earth, a jackfruit tree, a mother who does not know. Each sentence lasts only seconds. Reading too much brings migraines, blood, and moments Meera cannot separate from the present.

As the monsoon closes around the village, every clue points deeper into the institutions and family loyalties that taught people to survive through silence. Before the final rain stops spelling, Meera must decide what it will cost to make a dead child's voice public.

The rain forgets nothing. It only waits for someone who can read it.
