The story

What waits inside

Marine archaeologist Mariana hunts wrecks the archives insist should exist. Anonymous coordinates lead her into the deep Aegean and to a First World War hospital ship missing since 1916. She expects corroded steel and medical stores.

Instead, the hold contains one million unsent letters.

The crates are watertight. The ink survives. Nearby island fishermen have protected the wreck for four generations, honoring the chaplain who sealed those final words away.

Every recovery has promised Mariana the closure she never received after her father vanished at sea. Yet some descendants want their letters, while others want the lives they built without them. She must decide whether archaeology serves the truth, the living, or the wishes of people who can no longer answer.

Saline, suspenseful, and morally unflinching, a novel about what we inherit—and what we have no right to open.
