The story
What waits inside
Maja Kovač returns to Zagreb to inherit the kintsugi shop she spent years avoiding. For a century and a half, her family has joined shattered ceramics with lacquer and gold, keeping meticulous records of every break.
Her grandmother’s private ledger reveals another craft. She read what customers concealed inside their broken pots, then returned only the truths they could safely hold. The final entry names Maja’s mother and the day Maja was born.
The pot was never claimed. Her grandmother died before finishing the sentence that explained it. As Maja restores the vessel, she must decide whether every fracture deserves opening, and whether silence can be an inheritance given in love.
Gold marks the break; it cannot tell you what belongs inside.
