Sumak is twenty-two and learning to read what two sleeping bodies leave behind: a pulled edge, a trapped fold, warmth that remains after dawn. In her highland village, couples share one heavy blanket for ninety nights before they may marry. Each morning, the registrar reads the cloth for ease, fear, refusal, and consent.
Soon Sumak must begin her own season with Wasi. She wants to trust the work in her hands. But her older sister's blanket was read as true, and that marriage broke within a year.
As the nights gather, Sumak faces a question no training can settle: can a record be honest when the life it authorizes can still change? And when the blanket is her own, will she read what it holds, or what everyone needs it to say?
