The Sound of Wanting

Every person emits a subsonic frequency when they truly want someone. Composer Lyra Dane can hear those signals as notes, harmonics, and silences layered beneath ordinary conversation.

One woman’s desire sounds unlike anything Lyra has encountered: complex, evolving, and achingly beautiful. Believing herself its destination, she writes an entire symphony around the chord.

Then Lyra discovers the music is grief-want, the signal of a mother reaching toward the child she lost. The revelation dismantles both the symphony and the romance Lyra imagined. To finish either honestly, she must stop arranging another woman’s longing around herself and listen for the quieter frequency she has avoided all her life.
