The Quiet After
The world stopped making noise. The sea began to speak. The village had to choose which one to listen to.
One morning, every machine on Earth keeps working and stops making a sound.

The story
What waits inside
Engines still turn. Lights still burn. But the hum of the mechanical world is gone.
On the Isle of Harris, marine biologist Dr. Morven Murray wakes to a refrigerator without a hum, a generator without a note, and a ferry that never arrives. Tarsaval has food for weeks, medicine for days, and no way to know whether the rest of the world is listening.
At the pier, Morven lowers a hydrophone into an ocean suddenly clear of human noise. Beneath the tides she detects a low pulse: regular, structured, and stronger than it was before the Quiet.
As the village divides between restoring connection and adapting to what remains, Morven must choose what kind of scientist, neighbor, and listener she will become. The world wants its noise back. The sea has only just become audible.
An elemental literary novel about community, attention, and what becomes audible when the world stops talking.
